All of us have heard numerous times the importance of taking care of our bodies and minds so we can live a healthier and longer life.
Why is it so hard to get started?
Maybe because the habits that we have created for so long, sometimes even from childhood, are so ingrained in us and seem incredibly difficult to change. The overwhelming thought of change repeatedly keeps us stuck where we are, added to the excuses for them.
What if…we took baby steps while being loving to ourselves?
Today we can decide to drink one more glass of water, or instead of having a cup of coffee midday, eat a handful of almonds and a piece of fruit for an energy boost. Or take a vow of silence one night a week when all electronics are turned off and put away. How about starting a 10 min walk around the block after dinner? How about mindful breathing?
In truth, the changes we can make to a healthier life will be guided by our internal settings that tell us on a regular basis exactly what we need. If we keep the automatic pilot off and stop accepting to live life like robots, with no sense of where we are, why we are there and where we are aiming to be, we will be able to touch the wise being that lives within us all.
Questioning habits and the role they play in our well being is a wonderful way to start change for the better in our personal, familial and social lives. Integrating body, mind and spirit is critical in this quest, especially because we have human bodies that feel to the core the physical and emotional pain as well as the mental tribulation.
While it is easy for others to tell us what to do, it will be amazingly more powerful to silence all the noise and opinions from the world outside and calibrate our inner compass to this immensely abundant universe that lights up the path to follow…if we open our EYE. ☺
